Drafting Steps



Front


0-1- Full Length of the Garment.

0-2- Arm Depth, 1/6 Bust + 1”.

0-3- ½ of Shoulder - 2” for Deep Neck Blouse

3-4- Draw a line down intersecting at chest line.

2-5- ¼ Bust + ½” ease.

1-6- ¼ of waist + 1” for Dart

3-7- Mark down ¾.

0-8- Mark ½ of the bust distance and draw a straight line downwards till waist line and mark 9.

10 - Mark Bust point measurement from 8.

7-11- Shoulder width.

12-Draw a 1” line at 45 angle from 4. And join line from 12 to bust point 10.

13-Mark at shoulder intersection.

14- Mark neck line measurement form 11.

- Draw an armhole curve line from 7-5 by joining point 12



Dart Marking

-Mark A and B, ½” on both side from 9 and join 10, ½” down from bust point.

-Mark A and B, ½” on both side from 12 and join 10.

-Mark ‘A’ ¼ from 13 towards Arm curve line and join 10.


Back

Trace front

Remove Shoulder dart and armhole dart.

Change to outward Armhole curve line.

Change neck line as Required.


Cap Sleeve:

1 – 2 = sleeve length+1”.

1 – 3 = 1/8th bust-3/4”.

3 – 4 = 1/4 bust-3/4”.

2 – 5 = ½ of Sleeve round/Bottom measurement.

6 = the middle of 1 to 4 measure.

7 = ½ of the 6 to 4 measure.

8 = the middle of 6 to 1 measure.

9 - 7 = 3/4”.

8 - 10 = Mark ¾” upward.

1 - 10-7-4 = back armhole shape.

4 - 6-1 = Draw front armhole shape.


Some Points to consider:

Ø Fabric Required 1 Mtrs’ length & width of 44".

Ø When you are marking the pattern directly on fabric, first straighten the fabric by slightly stretching it diagonally to align the warp & weft.

Ø Iron the fabric to remove crease prior to marking and place the draft.

Ø if you are a beginner, prefer making the paper draft first, then pin it to fabric
